Welcome to the Australorp Club of Australia's Guest Book / Message Board
This little Guest Book area is for everyone to use. Please feel free to add any comments about our fowls, your fowls and this site.
Many non-members over the years have emailed the club requesting breeders who have Australorp Stocks for sale. Many also enquire about Point of Lay Pullets in both Large & Bantams, and Fertile Eggs.
Show Quality Australorps are VERY hard to get ....
...so please be patient in sourcing them.
Point of Lay Pullets are almost impossible to buy as the vast majority of our club members are show exhibitors and POL pullets are like gold to them.
Healthy Australorp chickens can be sourced from Club Member Debbie Campbell at http://chicksrus.com.au
Another good place to try is www.farmstock.com.au They list many other breeds as well.
Please note that this page has an automatic spam filter and some messages may take up to 24 hours to register. IP addresses are a recorded default. Offensive content will be eliminated & reported immediately.

Comment: We raise all black Tibetan Yaks and wanted to bring some free-ranging chickens to the ranch, so, during our research, we discovered the Australorp. We purchased 25, actually received 26. What we got were 24 hens and 2 roosters. After almost 8 months, all survived and they are giving us 20-23 eggs a day. The roosters are large, beautiful, with some green shine in the feathers, and loud. Our ranch is in northeastern Wisconsin, USA. These are majestic birds, as you know, and we love them.Dave Koehler

Comment: I was going to order some of these guys from a local breeder to have in my back yard for eggs and such. I was wondering about their personality, if they mind people or kids or don't like to be touched, or if they were nice little birds. Also, will they eat things like bugs and ticks, or do they pretty much just eat feed.I have a nice little coop for them and plan to keep them outside year round (unless it gets really cold) and let them range around my 1 acre backyard. Thanks

Comment: Hi I recently went to my first poultry show and saw black Australorps the size of turkeys (huge chickens!) I have australorps already but they must be bantams even though they are the size of normal chooks?! I purchased 2 dozen eggs of a breeder suppose to be large ones but half werenot fertile and the ones that did hatch have all grown white wing feathers (boy did I get ripped off!!)Could someone please tell me if the ones that are super big are a specific Australorp and where can I lay my hands on some fertile eggs from a reputable breeder. Thankyou!

I have an incubator and all the gear. I'm also very keen to get some australorps for home , so the plan is that most of the chicks will end up coming home with me. If any one can help I would appreciate it. I'm willing to drive a fair way to pick them up if required. Probably as far as Melbourne or the South Coast of NSW.

Comment: Hi folks I run a large organic vegetable garden growing old heritage varieties of veggies. Chooks are an important part of the crop rotation, as they scratch over and clean up after each crop is harvested. These hens live well! For years now I've run the brown and black hybrid hens, but have decided that it makes as much sense to propogate rare pure breeds of hens as it does to maintain old vegetable varieties as a seed-saver, which is what I do. But I'm having no success at all in finding Australorps in South Australia; the two breeders I knew of in Adelaide have got out of the game... Can anyone help out with starter stock (six hens)? I'm also interested in a source of fertile eggs should any of the new hens go broody; keeping a rooster in the Adelaide suburbs is becoming problematic with higher density housing becoming the norm, and the loss of backyard vegetable gardens. Cheers Andrew

Comment: hellow, I have two australorps which I sourced from good stock in Bullsbrook. The hens came with growths on their feet however with olive oil they have gradually fallen off. In the nine mths I've had them we've had 2 eggs!! from one of them, the other doesn't lay at all. They have free range in the garden, have veggie scraps, eat wheat, laying pellets, shell grit, corn and sunflower seed. They eat well! One of the hens red colour on her face is fading and looks as thought it is turning whitish with growths, is this parasites? Can anyone give me suggestions, they seem quite happy enough. I've had australs before and they took care of themselves and were prolific layers so I'm not sure what's going on here. Look forward to your comments.

Comment: Gday. I am showing 2 Large Black Australorp Cockerels and 8 Large Black Australorp POL Pullets at the Australorp show at Beaudesert on 21st June. They will all be for sale and I might show them as 2 Trios & the other 2 pullets separate. First at the show gets them. They are not champion show birds, but they are healthy and good for the backyarder or starter.

Comment: Hi, I am new to the breed after recently purchasing 3 x 7 day female Australorp chicks. I was thrilled when in only a few days of arriving they started to respond to me. They come willingly for a cuddle. I have a photo of my hubby with a chick on his chest - they were both asleep.
